Evaluation of the correlations between laboratory measured material properties with field cracking performance for asphalt pavement

چکیده

Cracking is one of the primary distresses for asphalt pavements. There are many types laboratory tests developed to evaluate cracking performance material, however, relatively little attention has been dedicated evaluating and correlating measured properties with actual pavement performance. The main objective this study investigate relationships between various binder/mixture (including both fatigue thermal cracking) while also considering important mix design structure parameters. Field data were collected from 23 project sites control HMA section at least WMA each site. Laboratory testing was performed on field cores taken these sections as well corresponding extracted recovered binders. Advanced statistical analysis method including Pearson correlation Spearman rank coefficient then employed correlations disparate measurements data. Results show that T*D (thickness HMA/WMA layer*vertical failure deformation) parameter shows good length cracking, Pb%*εb-low (mixture binder content*binder strain) cracking. These do not change varying type (HMA or WMA). Based database generated in study, a preliminary threshold value 50 10 proposed minimize problem mixtures general.

Laboratory Evaluation and Pavement Design for Warm Mix Asphalt

For many years, the asphalt industry has been aware of the energy savings and environmental benefits inherent in cold mix or warm mix asphalt technologies. Environmental awareness and the need for improved energy efficiency has increased rapidly over the past few years and extensive measures such as the air pollution reduction targets set by the European Union under the Kyoto Protocol have enco...

Image Analysis for Automated Pavement Cracking Evaluation

Image processing technology plays an important part in the analysis and evaluation of pavement surface cracking. The pattern recognition method for crack geometry proposed in this paper makes it possible to extract data necessary for evaluating the extent and severity of cracking quantitatively. In this newly developed method, low-resolution images are used first to extract crack regions, and t...

Evaluating the Performance of Hot Mix Asphalt with Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement and Heavy Vacuum Slops as Rejuvenator

Due to the high price of crude oil, and consequently asphalt binder, the application of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in pavement technology is widely considered. The present paper is the result of a laboratory research which was carried out to investigate the effects of adding a rejuvenating agent to Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) with RAP. To this end, test samples comprised of Aged Asphalt Binder ...
